In SalesVu, there is a feature that allows you to mark customers as "Tax Exempt," which automatically removes taxes from any orders placed by the tax-exempt customer. This feature is especially useful for businesses that need to manage tax exemptions across multiple locations or for companies that need to maintain records of tax-exempt transactions for accounting purposes.
This feature also allows you to upload the tax-exempt form for a customer, ensuring proper documentation is kept for compliance.
Steps to Mark a Customer as Tax Exempt:
-
Access the Customer Profile:
Navigate to the "Customers" tab and to customer's profile in the SalesVu -
Mark as Tax Exempt:
Find the section labeled "Tax Exempt" and select the option to mark the customer as "Tax Exempt." -
Upload Tax Exempt Form (Optional):
If required, upload a copy of the customer's Tax Exempt form to the profile for documentation purposes. - You can also create a customer group, add multiple customers to it, and set the group as tax-exempt, instead of assigning tax exemption to individual customers separately. For that follow the steps below:
- Sign in to SalesVu.com
- Click on 'Customers'
- Click on the 'v' drop-down next to the 'Add Customer' button
- Click on 'Manage Group'
- Click on 'Add Group'
- Add the group name and enable the toggle for "Tax Exempt"
- All customers added to this group will automatically be exempt from tax.
Automatic Tax Removal:
Once marked as tax-exempt, any orders placed by this customer—whether through POS or SalesVu.com —will automatically have taxes removed.
- When you add a customer with a tax exemption to an order, their tax-exempt status will be displayed next to their name, as shown in the customer selection list.
- Additionally, the "Tax Exempt" note will appear on an order receipt when you close this order
- To generate reports displaying tax-exempt orders, go to the Orders report, click on "Advanced Options," and select the "Tax Exempt" filter to view all orders placed with tax exemption. This feature is useful for accounting and compliance tracking.
