What is a modifier?
A modifier is a feature in SalesVu that allows you to configure minor changes to a product. Modifiers are generally used in restaurant/food service-based businesses and even retail.
Example #1: a 12-ounce cup of coffee might have possible modifiers like cream, sugar, flavor shot, etc.
Example #2: a T-shirt might have different sizes and colors
There are two types of modifiers in SalesVu: 'Universal Modifiers' and 'Merged Modifiers'
Universal Modifiers - These are modifiers that can be used and shared across any products within your account. For example, the modifier sizes (small, medium, large) can be used for any retail product that you offer. There are two ways to create modifiers:
Approach 1
1. Sign in to SalesVu.com
2. Click on "Products & Services"
3. Click "Add Product" (i.e. T-shirt)
4. Enter the following
- product name
- enter the selling price
- assign the category
5. Under the 'Select Modifier Groups' tab, click on 'Add Group'
6. Enter a modifier group name (i.e., 'Sizes' or 'Colors') > click on the save icon on the right
7. Click on the 'Customize' option
8. On the pop-up screen, click on 'Add item'
9. Enter item name(s) (e.g., 'Small', 'Medium', 'Large') > click the save icon after adding each item.
- You can also enter an extra cost (optional) at this step.
- Note: For retail businesses, it's important to check the merge box at the bottom so the system creates each variant as an individual product for inventory tracking (e.g., when you check merge, you will see items under your inventory like 'T-shirt-small', 'T-shirt-medium', 'T-shirt-large', etc.).
10. Click on 'Save' at the bottom right of the pop-up screen
In this example, we've added modifier groups (sizes and colors) to our product and you can repeat these steps to assign these modifier groups to another product or create new modifier groups. However, if you have many products that require modifiers, we would recommend you review the second approach below:
Approach 2
1. Sign into SalesVu.com
2. Click on "Products & Services"
3. Click "Add Product" (i.e. T-shirt)
4. Enter the following
- product name
- assign the category
- change the type to 'non-sellable'
- enable it for inventory tracking (optional)
5. Click on 'save'
6. Repeat these steps for each modifier
In this example, we've added the modifier item named 'small'. Then we will repeat these steps for each size (medium, large, etc). As a note, you can 'clone' the item and then simply rename the product to speed up this process (to clone a product, go back to 'Products & Services' > 'Product Listing' > click on the drop-down arrow next to the product > 'Clone').
Now we will be adding the modifiers into a group.
Once you've added all modifier items of your choice, you can now organize them into "groups". In this example, we will add the modifiers (small, medium, large) into a group called "Sizes"
1. Click on the 'Products & Services' page
2. Click on 'Manage Modifiers' on top
3. Click on 'Add Modifier'
4. Name the group (i.e., Sizes)
5. Click on 'Add Product'
6. Search and locate the different sizes that were created in the previous steps
7. Click on 'Next' and follow the on-screen prompt to enter the unit, quantity, and additional price (optional)
8. Repeat thee steps #6 and #7 until you've added all the modifiers to the group.
9. Click on 'Save'
Applying the modifier group to your products
1. Click on 'Products & Services
2. Search and locate the product of your choice (i.e., T-Shirt)
3. Click on the drop-down arrow next to the product > 'Edit'
4. Scroll down to the bottom and locate 'Select Modifier Groups'
5. Click on 'Select Groups' on the right and locate the group of your choice
6. Save and repeat these steps for any other groups
7. Lastly, save the product
